Frequently Asked Photoshoot Questions

MATERNITY PHOTOSHOOTS

Q. When should I book my Maternity Photoshoot? The best time to capture your bump is between 28 to 34 weeks as by that point your tummy will be nice and round. However the choice is yours. Q. What should I wear to the Maternity Photoshoot? I want you to be comfortable during the photoshoot, so please wear something that you feel relaxed in. There is no need to feel nervous about your photoshoot, as I will follow your lead as to what you want. There are a selection of dresses to choose from in the studio, some women choose to wear these, while some do not, remember this time is about you. I ask for footwear not to be worn during the photoshoot. Q. Who can I bring with me to the Maternity Photoshoot and what should they wear? You can bring your partner with you and other children if you have them. I recommend simple solid colours, avoiding clothing with logos and patterns. The same is recommended for children. Q. Can I bring anything with me to the Maternity Photoshoot? Some people choose to bring items with them which are associated with their baby, such as scan cards, comforter, toy, an item of clothing, a pair of shoes. I am happy for you to bring such items and I will do my best to incorporate these into the photoshoot.

NEWBORN PHOTOSHOOTS

Q. When should I book my Newborn Photoshoot? It is best to book when you are still pregnant, to ensure that you can get a suitable date. I would suggest booking after your 20 week scan, when you know your approximate due date. A photoshoot should be carried out when your baby is 5-12 days old as this typically works best, but each baby is different. However, I know this can be a super busy time, so I am happy to book photoshoots when your baby is no more than 6 weeks old. Q. Can I still book if my baby has already arrived? Yes please contact me as soon as possible to arrange a photoshoot and I will do my best to accommodate you. Q. What should I do if I have booked a Newborn Photoshoot and my baby arrives early or late? Once your photoshoot is booked, it can be moved to suit your baby’s arrival. Please contact me as soon as possible to arrange a suitable alternative date. Q. Should I feed my baby before the Newborn Photoshoot? Feed your baby as normal ahead of the photoshoot, as we want a happy and hopefully sleepy baby. Ideally feed your baby just before you leave the house to come to the studio. The photoshoot lasts up to 2 hours and that time is used to settle your baby and move them into different positions and set ups, so having a fed baby will hopefully allow us to gain more photographs. If your baby is due a feed within the photoshoot then this is not a problem, we will take a break. Q. What about my diet if I am breastfeeding? Some foods, which you consume, can upset your baby’s stomach, so it is important to avoid certain foods 24 hours prior to the session if possible. Acidic foods such as tomatoes, lemons, oranges, berries, pizza, spaghetti, spices and chilli. Gassy vegetables such as asparagus, onions, broccoli, cabbage and cauliflower. Also to restrict soda, coffee and beer if possible. Q. What should I do with my baby prior to the Newborn Photoshoot? It is helpful if you can interact with your baby before you arrive for the photoshoot, as this will help your baby to sleep later on. Q. What should I bring to the Newborn Photoshoot? Bring anything you feel you and your baby are likely to need (such as nappies, wet wipes, dummy, and milk if bottle fed). I have a selection of magazines available, along with hot drink making facilities and chocolate biscuits. I also have a baby changing area, with mat and so on. Q. Do you need to know when I book, if my baby is a boy or a girl? If you do know at the time of booking, then let me know as it helps me to get ready for the session in advance by knowing what colours and props to use. However it is not a problem to let me know once baby has arrived. Q. What should I dress my baby in for the Newborn Photoshoot? It is ideal not to dress your baby if anything which goes on over the head, as removing this at the start of the session may wake up your baby and may unsettle them. Ideally dress them in something which is zip-up or has snaps like a onesie/sleeper. Q. Who can I bring with me to the Newborn Photoshoot? It is fine for you to bring your partner along with you to the photoshoot. Or you can bring a family member or one friend. Please let me know in advance if you are bringing anyone along. It is also possible to bring along any other children you have. Please let me know this in advance of the photoshoot if you are bringing your other children, so that I can plan this in and know who to expect on the day. Also be aware that 2 hours is a long time for older siblings to wait around, so it is recommended to bring something to keep them occupied when they are not being photographed, however nothing noisy as we do not want to wake the baby! Q. What should I wear to the Newborn Photoshoot? If you wish to have some photos with your baby, then I recommend simple solid colours, avoiding clothing with logos and patterns. The same is recommend for partners and siblings. I ask for footwear not to be worn during the photoshoot. Also be aware that during a Newborn photoshoot the room needs to be a warm temperature, so you may want to wear layers so that you can take items off if you get too warm. Q. Is my baby naked during the Newborn Photoshoot? I do not take any photos of your baby without a nappy on. I have nappy covers and outfits to cover this. Q. What if my baby is awake during the Newborn Photoshoot? We can still capture some beautiful images of your baby awake. Q. What if my baby becomes distressed or unsettled and will not cooperate during the Newborn Photoshoot? My number one priority is your baby’s well being, if for any reason they become distressed or unsettled I will soothe and comfort them. If this does not work, you will be able to attend to your baby to resettle them. At the end of the day you know your baby best and if you feel the photoshoot is not working on this occasion, then the photoshoot will be rebooked at no additional charge to yourself. Q. What is my role during the Newborn Photoshoot? During the photoshoot there might be times when your assistance is needed to help ensure your baby’s safety and well being, for example with the use of certain props or certain poses, a ‘spotter’ is required. Here your role will be to pay close attention to your baby to check throughout the photoshoot. Also when I am changing set up’s I may ask you to sit with your baby when I get things ready.
